Theme for the Week June 6th-June 12th - Adventure!
Adventure! June 7th is the day Daniel Boone supposedly found Kentucky way back in 1769. He was one
of the first Europeans to live there with his family. That was brave! Let's be like Daniel this week - explore,
have an adventure, try new things!
Let's go on an adventure and explore this week! Find a new park, try a new food, look under
the bed, explore your backyard for bugs, rocks, flowers, go to the zoo, etc. Show your toddler
new things that he/she hasn't seen before! Be an explorer!
Letter of the Week: E for Explore. Point out things that start with "E" - egg, elephant, ear.
Show your toddler a picture of both a capital E and a lower case e. Draw an E on paper and let
him/her trace over it, or use your child's finger to draw it in the sandbox or dirt. Use bath tub
or refrigerator letters to show him/her this letter as well.
Number of the Week: 7 - When you show your child anything say "7 eggs" (or whatever you are counting). Write the number 7 on paper or show your toddler a flash card. Show your child 7 things at a time and count them - "one, two, three, etc". If nothing else, hearing the number is good for him/her.
Songs of the Week: Daniel Boone Theme Song - since we all know the Dora song, we thought it would be fun to hear the old Daniel Boone song from waaaay before most of us was born. This one is dubbed in Spanish for some extra learning!
Story of the Week: Jan Brett's The Hat - A story about some animals exploring a "hat" they find. Probably need to skim the story for your toddler but you'll love the illustrations. When I need books from my local library, I search the catalog on-line and placed holds on all the books I want. In a couple of days, they are ready to pick up. Instead of trying to browse the shelves with a busy toddler, I pick them up, check them out and I'm on my way. Snack of the Week: Anything New! - Has your toddler tried saag yet? How about twice-baked potatoes? Pirate booty? This week, let's try a food he/she has never had!
Spanish Words of the Week: explore - explorar, adventure - la aventura, new - nuevo/nueva
Do It Myself: Explore the backyard - As long as your yard is enclosed and your child can walk, just let him/her wander around the yard (while you follow) and see what interests him/her. Just see what happens!

Yoga Pose: Kid Yoga- Here is a fun site that gives tips about teaching children yoga and has some great pictures of a little person doing yoga.
Sign Language Sign of the Week: Explore, Where?, Why? If your toddler is still learning how to talk, sign language can be a great way for him/her to communicate. And as they get older, they'll pick up signs faster and it can be more of a fun thing versus a way to communicate.
Remember to give your toddler/preschooler a hug and tell him/her you love them. Hope you have a wonderful week!
