Marvelous Mammals by Mike Gold, Published 2025 by Discovery Rhymes, LLC

What do an alpaca, a baboon, a moose, a giraffe, and a sloth all have in common? They're featured in Marvelous Mammals by Mike Gold, aka "Pompah", according to the book's dedication page.

This book is adorable and educational - not only is it written in rhymes, it also teaches young readers fun facts about these animals. Erin Syme's animal illustrations are precious, with the animals in their natural habitat but also with a few little twists sprinkled in (the young moose wearing glasses or the roll of toilet paper that you'll have to read the book to find!).

The back of the book tells the reader exactly what they will experience: "Every page mixes rhythm, color and play to help little learners remember what they discover - and love every minute of it."

The book's publisher, Discovery Rhymes says this in the beginning of the book: "we believe children learn best when learning feels like play" - and the little poems about each animal feel just like that.

I love that I learned new facts about my favorite animal - the sloth. Did you know they can hold their breath for up to 20 minutes to escape a predator by submerging themselves underwater? That's just one of the fun facts you can learn while reading this book. Great for young readers or for homeschoolers.

Mike Gold is a former advertising executive, university teacher and now a proud grandparent who writes rhyming picture books for children aged 3-7. Inspired by his fathers gift for rhyme and the joy of reading to his grandkids, his books are created with the simple belief he held throughout his teaching career: fun is the best teacher.

Discovery Rhymes believes children learn best when learning feels like play. That's why every book blends real world knowledge with storytelling, rhyme, and fun. They call it "edutainment."

Marvelous Mammals is the first book in the series with Remarkable Reptiles following in the Spring of 2026. Mike, originally from the UK, now resides in beautiful Bozeman, Montana.
